How on earth did we get away with that? Somehow, both the
results that mattered went our way and we have been given another chance, as if
by the God of football, to secure Champions League football for next season.
As I predicted, Man City brushed aside Newcastle earlier in
the day and, although it meant that City are probably going to win the league,
it meant the worst that could happen was Arsenal would be at least 4th whatever
Spurs could manage against the (mighty) Villa. Especially after Chelsea, I
don’t like to see money win the league, but I suppose it makes a change from
United winning all the time.
I was on the edge of my seat watching Villa vs. Spurs and
let me tell you, I’m glad I’m not a Villa fan – watching that match left me exhausted.
God knows what those fans are going through week after week, it’s no wonder
they keep booing the manager. God also knows how they managed to nick a point
off Tottenham – beats me, every time Tottenham attacked it looked like they
could score. When they eventually did with almost half an hour to go, I was
bracing myself for a Tottenham takeover, yet somehow, despite some shocking
Villa defending, they really stole a point that they really didn’t deserve. Cue
a huge sigh of relief over the red half of North London. It feels like we’ve
got away with murder, to be honest.
It may be that yesterday’s draw was a blessing in disguise
to really make sure we give 200% next Sunday. There’s no way we can put our
European hopes in jeopardy to help the arch-rivals. Today’s gigantic let-off
means that although there is still a job to do, it is still in our hands and we
have to make sure that Roy goes off to FA headquarters on a bad run.
Now although we’re in an ideal position, it’s no secret that
we should’ve had 3rd place a long time ago. You can only blame Wenger for the
poor run with his squad selection. The players are playing their hearts out but
the best players aren’t playing for long enough – Wenger is the biggest
football genius but his decision to leave Oxlade-Chamberlain out of every
starting XI is as confusing as Alex Song’s hairdo. Why he can’t see every game
when he comes on the team look refreshed and more like a top team, we’ll never
know. Benayoun and Gervinho put together aren’t half as good as AOC, yet they
still get picked ahead of him. He must be saving him for England’s summer at
the Euros.
All criticising aside, it’s time to get behind the team for
one final time. It’s our last chance to get Champions League football, and
possibly our last chance to keep Van Persie. This game could end up being our
most important this season, and somehow, our fate is in our hands. I still
can’t believe it.
Come On You Reds!
