Top 5: Statues I'd Like To See

After Dennis Bergkamp's belated statue was confirmed this week, it seems that he won't be the last legend to be cast in bronze at AFC. And, naturally, this got me thinking; who else deserves one?

Personally, I'm not too excited about statues going around the Emirates to remember our legends - most of them are already wonderfully displayed along the four massive murals surrounding the stadium, while I'm more of a fan of naming stands and surrounding areas after legends instead, but I suppose statues are still a nice touch. However, there's only so much space for so many bronze busts. These legends are my top players I'd like to see in the running for the next one.

5: David Seaman

Possibly my favourite 'keeper of all time. Whether it was his ridiculous saves, his sheer commitment or just for the ponytail alone, you couldn't not have 'Safe Hands' down as an Arsenal legend. After 13 years at Highbury, over 200 clean sheets and over 1,000 career appearances, he served his club and country with utmost passion and desire. He even celebrated the big milestone with THAT save from Paul Peschisolido at Old Trafford. Wouldn't that be the perfect pose for a goalie statue?

4: Robert Pires

There are loads of class midfielders we could choose from to be represented outside the stadium, but for me, none come much better than Robert Pires. Quite simply style and substance all into one player. Oozing with class, after a tricky, if not vitally important first season for Bobby, he became a huge, influential and crucial player for Arsenal as we surged towards two league titles in three years. He'll always be an Invincible, let's make him immortal. And his pose? It has to be chipping Peter Schmeichel...

3: Patrick Vieira

Quite easily our best captain after Mr. Arsenal, Tony Adams - who is quite rightly already stood with open arms just past the Ken Friar Bridge. For them to follow each other into the captaincy was just perfect. A widely successful 3 years with Patrick was largely down to his unrivalled physicality in the middle of the park that seems to be missing from Arsenal sides of today. He may have gone and joined a lot of other ex-Gooners at City, but to secure the unbeaten season and lift the trophy in style has him in my good books for life. There was no-one quite like Patrick Vieira.

2: Ian Wright

A true legend. A man who became our record goalscorer by breaking the previous record which had been kept for over half a century. Even more remarkably, all this after just six glorious years at Highbury. What's better, most of them, unlike the clincher for the record, were absolute beauties. He is the stuff legends are made of. Who cares if his celebrations that momentous day were a little premature? That's why we love Wrighty. Who knows, he could even be the second manager to be standing out there...

1: David 'Rocky' Rocastle

I may be slightly favoured here towards players I grew up watching, but Rocky is one truly inspirational exception. Cruelly taken from us by cancer at the tender age of 33, he remains, and will remain a true hero to fans of all ages. His 8 years at Arsenal were dazzling. That boy could sure dribble. He'd score the odd important goal, too - with his dramatic winner in a League Cup Semi at White Hart Lane - of all places - arguably his finest hour. What a player. What a man.
